Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) has a long established history of
usage. In the early days Chinese Herbalists would have prescribed herbs more
from a shamanic point of view. Later the need for a more rational understanding
and explanation of the use of herbs was required and theories and ways to
diagnose were formulated.
Today Chinese Herbs are prescribed on the basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine
(TCM) theory.
What happens during a consultation?
A consultation will include in depth questioning ( asking diagnosis), touch
diagnosis (ie.Pulse diagnosis) combined with visual observation including Tongue
diagnosis and will take one hour.
From all of this the Herbalist will see pattern of Health ( and Illness)
emerging. When prescribing herbs these will be matched to this Pattern.
What will happen after diagnosis?
Chinese Herbal Medicine is about prescribing herbs for certain conditions and
these herbs can come as follows:
1. Patent Pills. Very useful to compliment Shiatsu treatments, given for
long term problems that are not severe.
2. Powders. These are easy to prepare, just add water! Convenient for
acute and deep rooted problems.
3. Loose Herbs. These are boiled up but can be less tasty and take more
time to prepare.
How long is treatment?
The longer a condition has been around, the longer the treatment will take. For
acute treatments there will be no need for long term treatment.
How much will treatment cost?
The initial face to face Consultation costs £35 and will normally be followed by
either 30 minute follow up consultations (£20) or where appropriate, telephone
consultations (£6 for 15-20 minutes).
Patent pills cost about £5 per 6-10 days depending on dosage.
Powders can vary in price but on average may cost £15-£20 per 9 days
Herbs can be either sent to you or handed out at the Rosemount Centre and will
be supplied complete with details of how to take them and with information on
follow up consultations.
